Factors are numbers we can multiply together to get a new number.

### Example 1

4 and 2 are factors of 8, because of **4 × 2 = 8**

### Example 2

5 and 2 are factors of 10 because of** 5 × 2 =10 **

A point to remember is that a prime number has exactly **two factors**, 1 and the number itself.

A few prime numbers are **2,3,5,7,11,13** and the list continues.

A prime factor is a number that is a prime number but also a factor of another number,

therefore making it a **prime factor**.

### Example 1

The prime factors of** 15 **are 5 and 3, as 5 × 3 = 15 (Remember, 5 and 3 are prime numbers)

### Example 2

The prime factors of **10** are 2 and 5, as 2 × 5 = 10(Remember, 2 and 5 are prime numbers)
