Further Algebra: Linear Equations Part 3

Now let’s look at another example and break this down into steps!

Example 2

Solve the equation:

Step 1

As 3 is the last operation we need to multiply both sides by three as our first operation.

Step 2

Simplified it becomes 5x’s + 4 =  13 × 3 which is 39.

Step 3

We can now minus 4 from both sides which simplifies to 5x is equal to 35

Step 4

We can divide by 5 on both sides, therefore, we get ‘x’ is equal to 7.

Now remember if we have a fraction we can multiply both sides by the denominator, that allows us to solve a simpler equation. If you’re still unsure, watch the Linear Equations Lessons to solidify your understanding!
