Further Algebra: Linear Equations Part 2

There are a few steps you have to follow when you have an equation with brackets. So let’s break this down!

Example 1

Solve the equation:

Step One
 Expand the brackets: 3x + 12 = 27

Step Two
Subtract 12 from both sides: 3x + 12 – 12 = 27 – 12

Step Three
Simplify: 3x = 15

Step Four:
 Divide by three: 3x ÷ 3 = 15 ÷ 3

Step Five
 Simplyfy: x = 5

Every equation is not the same, therefore the steps will be different for each.
