On the writing section of Language Paper 1, you need to show your ability to use language techniques and word choices correctly for effect.
Remember to include sophisticated vocabulary and a range of language techniques.
What do we mean by word choices? We mean including – nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and verbs. This is key to gaining those extra marks, and it’s particularly good to use adjectives and adverbs if you complete the description question.
Depending on what you write, you want to include the correct description. If you’re writing about a negative event, you would want to include words with negative connotations, or if you’re writing about a positive event, you want to include positive connotations.
A Few Tips
- Try to vary your word choices- use nouns, adverbs, adjectives, and verbs.
- If you want to create a strong effect, use words with obvious positive or negative connotations.
- Start your sentences with verbs, adjective, and adverbs, to make your writing more interesting to read.
- Try not to repeat yourself. Use alternative words as much as possible.
Remember you use words for ‘effect‘ and you need to convey this!
